Week of December 19, 2021

Happy Holidays, IGSV!! The calls to action will be taking next week off. See you in the new year!

1) BBB and Voting Rights: Joe Manchin said on Fox News this weekend that he is a “no” on the Build Back Better Act that he has been negotiating with the Biden administration. Voting rights bills have also been languishing in the Senate. Call our two Senators this week to let them know that these bills are priorities. You can read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/19/us/politics/manchin-build-back-better.html.

2) Police Reform Legislation: Thank you to all who attended our December IGSV meeting yesterday. It was so great to see so many of you! Thank you to Mike McCall and Suzanne Wilder for presenting on pending legislation in New Jersey on police reform as the first programming from our Committee on Policing in America. The presentation is here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1cX2y5qkoacEz_zn6055tt5k2jf7TkjuldybVQavNkzs/edit?usp=sharing. This week, read through the slides and visit some of the resources, starting with NAMI: https://www.nami.org/mhstats. More action items will follow!
