Week of November 7, 2021

1) November IGSV Group Meeting: Our next group meeting is this Saturday, Nov. 13, from 3-4:30 pm on Zoom! Our Committee on US Foreign Policy has invited Dan Kovalik to speak about Nicaraguan politics in the wake of their general election (held today, Nov. 7). Dan is a human rights lawyer and peace activist who teaches at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Based on some of his past statements, his talk is sure to be provocative. Please RSVP to indivisiblegsv@gmail.com to get the Zoom link. Invite friends who might be interested, because this is a great opportunity to increase the IGSV reach.

The IGSV Committee on US Foreign Policy encourages us to watch the following video to get some context: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8K7N88-XNQY

2) Recruitment and Marketing Committee: Can you be part of a Recruitment & Marketing committee to bring IGSV to more people? The committee will work on efforts like using social media to spread the word, reaching out to relevant local groups, and more. Your ideas and efforts will help keep IGSV alive and growing! Email Sarah Morgan at sarahmorgan@gmail.com to join this new committee!

3) Infrastructure: The Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal has passed the House and been signed by President Biden! This is huge for this area, because among other things that will be funded is the Gateway tunnel for better commuting to/from NYC. Call Congressman Malinowski to thank him for being a champion for this project and for improving our transportation infrastructure overall. 4) Redistricting Discussion: There is some concern that new Congressional district maps for New Jersey might essentially give Tom Kean Jr. a clear path to election in NJ7 to solidify Andy Kim and Mikie Sherill’s re-election in 2022. Many of us worked hard to flip this seat in 2018 and hold it in 2020. If you are interested in representing IGSV views on redistricting, there is a Zoom meeting with a team from the Malinowski campaign tomorrow (Monday) at 6 pm. Please email indivisiblegsv@gmail.com to get the registration link for the meeting.

Quote of the week: “For years, we have been calling on our leaders in Washington to get serious about replacing that extraordinary turn of the 20th century infrastructure with even more extraordinary 21st century infrastructure. Today, Congress answered that call.” – Congressman Malinowski, https://twitter.com/RepMalinowski/status/1456830474911948800
