Week of October 10, 2021

1) Canvass: On Saturday, October 16, we’ll be launching another canvass from Annandale. Exact time will be determined later this week. Keep your eyes peeled for more info on our Facebook page or email indivisiblegsv@gmail.com for details.

2) Freedom to Vote Act: For about a month, the Senate has been sitting on a bill to protect people’s right to vote, called the Freedom to Vote Act. Info about the bill is here: https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/freedom-vote-act. This week, contact our two Senators to ask them to eliminate the filibuster to pass efforts that will protect democracy. You can read more from Indivisible here: https://indivisible.org/demand-your-senator-eliminate-filibuster-pass-freedom-vote-act.

3) November IGSV Group Meeting: Please save the date for our November group meeting, which will be the afternoon of Saturday, November 13. Our guest speaker will be Dan Kovalik speaking about US relations with Central American countries. Here’s Dan’s Wikipedia page for more information about him: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Kovalik. Thank you to our Committee on US Foreign Policy for putting this meeting together. Once the exact time is set, a more formal Facebook event and RSVP will be set.

4) Support Flemington Area Food Pantry: Each year, the Flemington Area Food Pantry sponsors an “empty bowl” lunch as a fundraiser. Each participant gets a homemade pottery bowl and locally made soup and sides. This year, you can order your food ahead of time for pickup from the Pantry in Flemington on October 22 from 11 am to 2:30 pm. For more information and ordering, go to https://flemingtonfoodpantry.org/empty-bowl. Make a donation this week to help local families in need!

Quote of the week: “We are not myths of the past, ruins in the jungle, or zoos. We are people and we want to be respected, not to be victims of intolerance and racism.” – Rigoberta Menchu
