Week of September 26, 2021

1) 2021 Election: Vote by Mail ballots are starting to arrive, so we are officially in the final stretch of the 2021 election cycle. Now is the time to volunteer and donate. Thank you to all who came out last weekend to canvas or write postcards. Please keep showing up! Our LD23 Assembly candidates Hope Kaufman and Nick LaBelle can accept both donations and volunteers to help with the campaign here: https://www.hopeandnick.com. Our LD23 Senate candidate Denise King can as well, here: https://www.denisetking4senate.com.

2) IGSV Policing in America Committee: Our new committee on Policing in America invites all IGSV members to complete the survey available at the link below. This survey will help us to assess the issues in policing that are currently of concern to our membership and to plan an education and action program based on those concerns. You need not answer every question; answer only those questions that you are comfortable and interested in answering. The survey has been designed to preserve anonymity. Answer the demographic questions only if you feel they inform your other responses, and if you are not concerned if they tend to identify you. Thank you in advance for your participation!

3) Gerrymandering: This is the year in which state legislatures redistrict their states in response to the latest Census data. Indivisible has a great explainer about how to fight undemocratic gerrymanders here: https://indivisible.org/resource/fighting-gerrymandering-states. Read the explainer to get ready when the draft New Jersey maps come out. You can follow what is happening in each state here: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/redistricting-2022-maps/

Quote of the week: “A man dies when he refuses to stand up for that which is right. A man dies when he refuses to stand up for justice. A man dies when he refuses to take a stand for that which is true.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
