Week of July 11, 2021

1) IGSV Summer Picnic: Join us for a group picnic to reconnect with IGSV members and friends in person: July 25, 4 pm, at 9 West St., Annandale. Please sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F4DA9A628A2FFCE9-igsv to let us know if you’ll bring your own food or a particular potluck dish to share. Either is fine! Drinks and light snacks will be provided.

All are welcome, whether you have been active recently, haven’t been to a meeting in a while, or would be joining us for the first time. All ages are welcome, too!

Group announcements will happen at 5 pm. Otherwise, the start and end times will be flexible, depending on interest. Note that if it’s raining, we will still meet under tents. If the weather is particularly bad (lightning, wind, etc.), we’ll announce a rain date for August.

Please RSVP by email to indivisiblegsv@gmail.com.

2) Volunteer Effort: The next Western New Jersey Democrats Community Service Team opportunity is Tuesday, 8/24, from 9 am to noon at Grow a Row (Pittstown or Alexandria locations). Please RSVP to Susan DeNegre (sdenegre@comcast.net). This is a family-friendly, outdoor event that will help provide food for hungry people in the area.

3) LD23 Candidate Support: Keep looking for ways to help our State Legislature candidates. Their pages are https://www.hopeandnick.com and https://www.facebook.com/deniseking4senate/. Donate, hold a meet-and-greet, canvass, etc. Keep up the momentum for them moving through the summer and into the fall!

4) Know Tom Kean Jr.: Tom Kean Jr. has officially announced that he will run again for the NJ7 seat against Congressman Malinowski. Spend this week doing a little homework, particularly about his upcoming campaign launch with Kevin McCarthy (https://www.nj.com/politics/2021/07/tom-kean-jr-to-kick-off-nj-campaign-for-congress-with-help-from-top-house-republican.html). You should note that McCarthy is a Trump supporter, engaged in covering up January 6, and has led the House GOP efforts to combat all of President Biden’s agenda, including infrastructure funding for the Gateway project and a repeal of the SALT deduction. In other words, Kean Jr. is showing that he is not a moderate at all. Make sure you do your homework and share out with friends and neighbors!

Quote of the week: “In these days of being hospitalized, I have experienced how important good health care is, accessible to all. This precious benefit must not be lost which needs everyone’s contribution.” – Pope Francis, https://twitter.com/Pontifex/status/1414200298910932998
