Week of May 16, 2021

Note: This website will be undergoing maintenance May 20 for a few days. Please be patient if it is offline for a short period.

1) May IGSV Group Meeting: Our next group meeting will be this Saturday, May 22, 3-4:30 pm, via Zoom. I’ll lead a discussion about two topics near and dear to each of our hearts: 1) how to talk across the political aisle, and 2) how to talk about climate change. It will be based on work from esteemed climate scientist and communicator Katharine Hayhoe, such as this recent talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyG7T5fA1r0. We’ll also talk about the transition to our new bylaws and leadership structure. All are welcome!

RSVP by email to indivisiblegsv@gmail.com to get the Zoom link.

2) Bylaws and Leaders: Thank you all for your engagement in passing our new IGSV bylaws! The vote was 20 for and 0 against. They are now posted to our website: http://www.indivisiblegsv.org/bylaws/. We now need to fill three leadership positions: Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary/ Administrator. Please consider nominating yourself or another IGSV member! At our monthly group meeting on Saturday, we will discuss how to handle nominations to appoint our first officers.

3) Indivisible Truth Brigade: Indivisible has a new initiative, called the Truth Brigade, to collectively combat misinformation. This sounds like an effort exactly in the mission of IGSV! Consider signing up here: https://act.indivisible.org/signup/indivisible-truth-brigade. They have training webinars and will send you complete instructions on how to effectively advocate for Truth.

4) Support DC Statehood: Indivisible is printing postcards that we can send to our Members of Congress to advocate for making DC a state. Request your postcard here, using a custom image! If you would like to use the IGSV logo, you can download it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oWVsJoNRBYgQs2nQfZkgZjZePRF1hjQB/view?usp=sharing.

Quote of the week: “I’ll be running as a champion of infrastructure, not insurrection, and urging my party to remain open to everyone who believes in protecting our democracy. You may not agree with us Democrats on everything, but we will never ask you to sell your country or your soul.” – Congressman Malinowski, https://twitter.com/Malinowski/status/1392528642048208896
