Week of May 9, 2021

Happy Mothers’ Day!

1) National Bail Out: In honor of Mothers’ Day, please consider donating to National Bail Out (https://www.nationalbailout.org). This organization provides money to bail out Black mothers and caregivers so they can return to their families, coordinates community and employment for these women, and supports efforts to end pretrial detention. A donation would be a great way to spend Mothers’ Day!

2) Bylaws and Leaders: Thank you all for your engagement in passing our new IGSV bylaws! The vote was 20 for and 0 against. They are now posted to our website: http://www.indivisiblegsv.org/bylaws/. We now need to fill three leadership positions: Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary/ Administrator. Please consider nominating yourself or another IGSV member! At our monthly group meeting on May 22, we will discuss how to handle nominations to appoint our first officers.

3) May IGSV Group Meeting: Our next group meeting will be May 22, 3-4:30 pm, via Zoom. I’ll lead a discussion about two topics near and dear to each of our hearts: 1) how to talk across the political aisle, and 2) how to talk about climate change. It will be based on work from esteemed climate scientist and communicator Katharine Hayhoe, such as this recent talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyG7T5fA1r0. We’ll also talk about the transition to our new bylaws and leadership structure.

RSVP for the Zoom link by email to Indivisiblegsv@gmail.com

4) John Lewis Voting Rights Act: Watch this Indivisible video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApRvWKnhIgs. Then contact our three Members of Congress to ask that they vote to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
