Given the attention paid to the impeachment trial last week, there aren’t many new calls this week. Catch up on old ones if you need to!
1) IGSV Vision Moving Forward: As noted in last week’s Calls to action, members of IGSV have had two productive conversations about the future of IGSV. Thank you to all who filled out the survey last week. If you have not, please do so by this Wednesday: https://forms.gle/AtBjWZvCUECCTHcaA. It should take you ~5-15 minutes to complete. Thank you in advance for taking the time! Even if you have been a part of the previous discussions you should still fill out the survey.
2) Impeachment: Although the Senate has officially acquitted former President Trump in his latest impeachment trial, our three Members of Congress all supported his conviction. Contact all three to thank them for standing up for democracy and the peaceful transition of power following elections. They need to know that we appreciate their efforts to live up to their oaths to defend the Constitution.
3) Protect Democracy: Given the rhetoric during and after the impeachment trial, it’s clear that democracy is not safe from many Republican elected officials at the federal and state levels. Republican state governments in particular are moving to restrict voting even further in the wake of the 2020 election (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/republicans-advance-more-100-bills-would-restrict-voting-wake-trump-n1256821). This makes passage of bills in Congress meant to strengthen democracy even more critical. Call our Members of Congress to encourage them to support HR1 in the House and SR1 in the Senate. 4) Stay Safe: We are starting to emerge from what will hopefully prove to be the darkest time of the COVID pandemic. Numbers are improving in New Jersey and across the country, and the Biden administration has increased the rate of vaccine administrations. Do not get complacent now. Stay safe and stay socially distant!
