Week of September 13, 2020

1) IGSV September Group Meeting: Our next group meeting is this coming Saturday, September 19, from 3-4:30 pm via Zoom. The title is “Mars Should Never Wear Blue: The Dangers of Warrior Culture in U.S. Law Enforcement” and the discussion will focus on the causes of and solutions to police violence. The meeting will be led by our member Michael McCall, who is a retired FBI Special Agent and former US Army infantry officer. It should be a very timely discussion, given the ongoing protests, counter-protests, and police actions.

Please RSVP to indivisiblegsv@gmail.com to get the Zoom link.

2) Doherty’s racism: At a 9/11 memorial in Flemington on Friday, State Senator Michael Doherty from LD-23 (where most of us live) used his speech to accuse Black Lives Matter of terrorizing American citizens and to claim that “systemic racism” is an evil lie. Read an account of his speech here: https://www.nj.com/politics/2020/09/nj-senator-calls-black-lives-matter-movement-marxist-says-systemic-racism-is-evil-lie.html. Then call his office to let him know how his constituents feel about his speech, especially in the context of the 9/11 memorial. His office numbers are 908-835-0552 or 908-722-2427.

3) NJ7 Debates: The first debate between Congressman Malinowski and Tom Kean Jr. is tonight at 9 pm. You can watch at njglobe.com and on the YouTube channel for New Jersey Globe. Tune in and encourage friends and neighbors in NJ7 to watch, too! More information is here: https://newjerseyglobe.com/congress/in-nj-7-house-race-malinowski-and-kean-set-to-debate-on-sunday/.

4) Postcards and Phone Banking: While door-to-door canvassing is on hold, thanks to COVID, you can still contribute time to the Malinowski campaign. Please go to https://malinowskifornj.com to look for volunteer opportunities. Also, contact your municipality’s Democratic Committee to see if there are opportunities within your community.
