Week of July 26, 2020

1) Western NJ Volunteer Effort: United Way is putting together Safe Back to School kits for needy families in Hunterdon County. We can assist by providing PURCHASED OR HAND SEWN fabric washable masks in kid and/or adult size. The masks will be distributed to students from elementary school through high school. To arrange for safe pickup, please email: Lisa DeMuro at ldemurohunterdonmoms@gmail.com. The deadline is August 15. Feel free to contact Susan DeNegre if you have questions, at sdenegre@comcast.net. And share the Facebook post here: https://www.facebook.com/wnjdcst/photos/a.180760125990133/704153880317419/.

2) Edna Mahan: Read the report https://www.justice.gov/opa/press-release/file/1268391/download on minimal measurements that should be taken to improve the Edna Mahan Criminal Facility. Then call our three Members of Congress to let them know about the dire conditions at Edna Mahan and the need for reforms, particularly in the context of all of the other reforms needed in our criminal justice system.

3) Postcards: Moms Rising is looking for people to send out postcards to 1 million moms to encourage them to vote. Sign up here to get 10 pre-addressed, pre-stamped postcards for you to personalize: https://action.momsrising.org/survey/2020_GOTVpostcards_2nd.

Quote of the week: “Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Do not become bitter or hostile. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble. We will find a way to make a way out of no way.” – Congressman John Lewis
