Week of March 22, 2020

1) Malinowski Coronavirus Town Hall: Congressman Malinowski will be hosting a telephone townhall to give an update on coronavirus tomorrow, March 23, from 6-7 pm. Please RSVP here: https://tthm.wufoo.com/forms/teletownhall-with-congressman-tom-malinowski/ and share with others so that can hear our Congressman’s leadership first hand.

2) Congressional Support for Families and Workers: The word right now is that the Senate has failed to pass an economic stimulus package because Democrats want greater protections for workers, stronger support for health care, and restrictions on businesses like Trump’s from receiving bailouts. Call Senators Booker and Menendez to ask that they stay strong with Democratic principles of equality and truth, not allowing Trump to use this emergency to punish already disadvantaged people for little economic advantage. You can read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/22/world/coronavirus-updates-world-usa.html.

3) NJ Support for Families and Workers: New Jersey has moved forward in providing support for those impacted by coronavirus or by the forced social distancing enacted by Gov. Murphy. You can see a list of the current bills here: https://www.nj.com/coronavirus/2020/03/nj-senate-sends-murphy-first-wave-of-coronavirus-bills-boosting-aid-to-workers-businesses.html. Call our three state legislators (Peterson, DiMaio, and Doherty) to let them know about your circumstances if you need greater protections. Their contact information is here: http://www.indivisiblegsv.org/contact-your-representatives/. Congressman Malinowski has also been active in working with Gov. Murphy on greater protections for NJ-7 residents, so you should call his office, too.

4) Masks for Hunterdon County Medical Center: Karen L. Bowker is interested in helping provide much needed resources for the Hunterdon Medical Center during this health crisis. She writes, “They also are looking for gently used and new baby monitors, crocs and scrubs. I’ll be working with them to confirm acceptance of these donations. I need you to help spread the word and as soon as I can confirm Admin approval and a drop location I will post it. I ask for all to help share upcoming posts. Stay safe and healthy.” Keep an eye out for more information!

Quote of the Week: “One great danger of the Trump presidency is that he’s uninterested in performance as long as he can create the image that he’s been successful. Actual success is irrelevant. The image of success is what’s important.” – Max Skidmore, political scientist, quoted here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/03/18/trump-is-frantically-rewriting-his-epic-failures-dont-let-him/
