Week of February 23, 2020

1) Malinowski Town Hall: Congressman Malinowski will be holding a different type of town hall next Saturday, 2/29, from 1-3 pm in Berkeley Heights. To attend, please fill out this survey about campaign finance, gerrymandering, and lobbying by former government officials: http://ow.ly/Bj7c50yrTGf. The town hall will be a conversation about the results. Note that the survey will take about 30 minutes to finish. You should fill out the survey, even if you can’t attend the town hall. Make sure our values are heard!

2) National Security: Last week, President Trump fired the acting Director of National Intelligence, purportedly because he briefed the President that his campaign was receiving support from Russians. He then appointed a loyalist, Richard Grenell, to the post, despite a considerable lack of intelligence expertise. Call all three of our Members of Congress to ask that they work to ensure that our intelligence agencies are not politicized.

3) 2020 Election: Did you know that Indivisible has provided a scorecard on the Presidential candidates? You can see the scorecard here: https://scorecard.indivisible.org. Please read more about the candidates and support someone who matches our values!

4) March Walk/Run AND Group Meeting: This month, we will combine our monthly walk/run with our monthly IGSV meeting to give everyone a chance to commune with nature and with each other along the spectacular Columbia Trail. We will gather at 10 am for a few quick words of inspiration, and then head down the trail at whatever pace and distance works for you. Back at the parking lot after, we’ll have snacks and coffee.

Please bring something to share and picnic chairs/blankets if you are so inclined. If the weather is particularly good, there will be some picnic games as well. It will be a great way to celebrate the official start of spring along with fellow Resisters! All are welcome, including children of all ages, regardless of your walking/running pace. Dogs are also welcome. Please RSVP by email to indivisiblegsv@gmail.com.

Quote of the week: “Health care is a right, not a privilege for a select few, and skyrocketing medical costs are a national emergency. If there’s anything my diagnosis reminds me of, it’s that preventative services are lifesaving and we need to continue fighting for affordable health care for all.” – Governor Murphy, announcing that he has a tumor on his kidney and will have surgery in early March (the prognosis is good)
