Week of February 16, 2020

1) IGSV February Group Meeting: Our next IGSV group meeting will be this coming Saturday, February 22, 2-4 pm in Pittstown. Dr. Barter and other experts will talk about the importance of the 2020 Census and how to ensure that we are all counted! Please RSVP by email to indivisiblegsv@gmail.com. We’ll get you the address then.

2) March Volunteering: The Western New Jersey Democrats Community Service Team will be volunteering with NORWESCAP in March. Please join in helping support local food banks! It will be Wednesday, March 18th, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., at 201 N. Broad St. in Phillipsburg. Please RSVP by March 11th to sdenegre@comcast.net. This is a great way to make a positive impact on our communities through living our values! You can learn more about the Community Service Team here: https://www.facebook.com/wnjdcst.

3) Buy Gwen Ifill Stamps: Have you heard that the USPS issued postage stamps featuring Gwen Ifill for African American History Month? I bought two sheets at the Annandale post office and was told that I was the first to ask for them. Please go to your local post office and buy a sheet or two in a small act of resistance to show that we in Hunterdon County and beyond care about African American history. You can read more about the stamps here: https://store.usps.com/store/product/buy-stamps/gwen-ifill-S_475804.

4) Trump Budget: The Trump budget proposal came out last week, and it is nothing short of awful. It includes cuts to safety net programs like Medicaid and Social Security, allocates billions of dollars more for the border wall, and balloons the military budget. Read more details here: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/10/business/economy/trump-budget-explained-facts.html. Then call all three of our Members of Congress to let them know what your priorities are.
