Happy new year, IGSV! This is the year that we will get rid of the Trump presidency for good, either through removal by the Senate or through the November election! In the meantime, there’s a lot of work to do.
1) War with Iran: Indivisible has asked that everyone call all three of our Members of Congress this week to express forcibly that we do not want a war with Iran and that we will hold Congress and the Trump administration accountable if they get us into another war in the Middle East. See more here: https://indivisible.org/demand-your-representative-rein-trumps-march-war.
2) Fair CBP Treatment of Iranian-Americans: There are some reports that Iranian-Americans are being unfairly detained and questioned by Customs and Border Control. Although CBP denies this, please call our MoCs and let them know that any such actions would be unacceptable to us. We cannot repeat the treatment of Japanese-Americans during WWII. You can read more here: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/01/iranians-detained-asked-political-views-border-cair-200105234042589.html.
3) IGSV January Meeting: Our next meeting will be “The state of the state: A deep dive into NJ politics” by Saily Avelenda and Judy Kelly from NJ 11 for Change. Join us on January 18, 2020, 2-4 pm, at the main county library in Flemington on Route 12. Please RSVP by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Bring friends who you think should know more about NJ politics (and isn’t that all of us, really?)!
4) IGSV January Run/Walk: Also on January 18, we will have our next walk/run meetings (on the third Saturday of each month) at the Columbia Trail in High Bridge. In 2020, we’ll start these a little later, at 9 am, to allow for more people to attend. Please RSVP by email to email@example.com.
