Week of October 27, 2019

This week’s theme is THIS IS NOT NORMAL!

1) Impeachment: Indivisible has tools and scripts to make sure our Members of Congress conduct a fair and thorough impeachment inquiry (https://www.impeachnow.org/). Please also consider watching their short, daily videos about impeachment developments: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-pmnD_kbCiKDLUwPrziYZg/. IT IS NOT NORMAL to demand political help from foreign countries in exchange for aid that has already been signed into law.

2) GOTV: Please talk to your neighbors about getting out to vote next Tuesday. In particular, if you are interested in pushing back against Trump politics, please get out and vote for Dominick Puzio for Hunterdon County Sheriff. He would be in a position to develop policies around immigration, racial profiling, and other issues that can make Hunterdon a place that welcomes all…or not. IT IS NOT NORMAL for our current sheriff to visit the White House to ask for stronger border security, when we are 2000 miles from Mexico (https://www.mycentraljersey.com/story/news/local/hunterdon-county/2018/09/05/hunterdon-county-sheriff-fred-brown-white-house/1202028002/). Other races are also important: county freeholder, state assembly, and municipal races. If you need advice, please comment below!

3) Syria: We abandoned our Kurdish allies to make way for Turkey, Syria, and Russia. THIS IS NOT NORMAL! Even though al-Baghdadi has been killed (actually, killed himself), the reports indicate that Kurdish intelligence led to identifying al-Baghdadi’s whereabouts. We have lost this relationship now, illustrating why you do not betray your allies. Call our Members of Congress to let them know that you do not approve of the Trump administration’s policies in Syria. You can read more here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/baghdadis-death-underscores-what-weve-lost-by-abandoning-syrias-kurds/2019/10/27/117c6688-f8db-11e9-8906-ab6b60de9124_story.html.

4) IGSV Run/Walk: Please join us for November’s Indivisible: Garden State Values walk/run, November 16 at 8 am at the Columbia Trail parking lot in High Bridge. While IT IS NOT NORMAL for the weather to be so warm this late in the fall, we may be the beneficiaries as we enjoy the natural beauty of Hunterdon County while also doing a little self-care. Please RSVP by email to indivisiblegsv@gmail.com.

Quote of the Week: “It’s easy to feel helpless in the political process when you’re not educated on your rights, trained in political engagement options, in tune with revolutionary history, represented in positions of power, or basically told that your voice matters.” – youth activist Malavika Kannan, https://www.teenvogue.com/story/get-out-vote-young-people
